My trip to Matera as one last memory from 2019. What struck me about this city is how the lower town, built by digging into the mountain and using the extracted stone to raise houses in the very place of excavation, went from being where the poor of the ancient civilization resided to being an attractive destination for rich tourists.
The town is rich with breathtaking sights, both on the town itself and on the canyon facing it.
